A good quality brush has a high density of bristles. It will have a better application of paint or varnish, it will leave no traces and last longer.
There are 3 factors to consider when choosing a brush: the type of bristles, shape and dimensions. The natural bristle brushes are suitable for coatings containing solvents, such as alkyd paint and varnishes, as they are resistant to solvents. They are not recommended for water based coatings, because the bristles mayabsorb water, swell and lose their elasticity.
Brushes with synthetic bristles then better suited to the latex paint or dye water based.
A 3 inch (76 mm) brush is recommended for cutting corners and edges.
A 2 inch (50 mm) brush is ideal to paint trims and frames.
Bevelled bristles allow more detailed work. This type of brush is ideal for edging and framing and corners. A right brush will paint the flat surfaces.
How to clean a paint brush
A brush used to apply a water-based or latex paint is cleaned simply with warm soapy water.A brush used to paint oil based or alkyd paint should be cleaned with a solvent.
Keeping a brush in good condition
It is fairly common to start a paint job and not finish it right away ...To avoid cleaning the brush each time, here are some rules to follow: the brush should never stand up on his bristles. To do this, drill a hole in the butt and pass a wire and hang the brush while the hair soak in water or white spirit. Thus, the bristles remain straight and do not dry!
Alternavely, many also wrap their paint brush with cellophane. This technique is good for a day or two at most.
